CHURCH MUSICIAN

1993-2008 Organist & Choir Director, Director of Music,
Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Etobicoke

-         doubled the size of the choir from 25 to 52 volunteer members
-         doubled the choral repertoire
-         initiated and organized group voice lessons for choir members
-         initiated and published “Choir Notes” parish guide to music
-         initiated a major expansion of choir library
-         created a new system for tracking music
-         initiated joint musical events with neighbouring churches:
i.e. Taizé Prayer Evening, Hymn Festival, Choir Festival,
Annual Out of the Cold Fundraising Concert ($50,000 to date).
-         composed descants, hymn accompaniments, arrangements for choir and instruments.
-         initiated and executed project to create Jubilee Hymnal (supplement to CBW III)
-         initiated and executed project to create “Celebrate” a new hardcover parish hymnal
-         recorded two parish choir CD’s as fundraisers ($8,000) for St. Vincent de Paul
-         created a standard Sunday repertoire of two motets and a Mass setting
i.e. Gabrieli, Palestrina, Fauré, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Alain, Ireland etc.
-         hired and rehearsed professional musicians for special liturgies & recordings
-         worked with volunteer committee to plan and execute a choir tour to Italy
-         commissioned works from Canadian composers
-         coordinated scheduling of organists and cantors
-         oversaw maintenance and initiated repairs to organ
-         initiated program for apprentice conductors

1989-1993Supply and interim organist
Worked at numerous churches in Toronto including:  Yorkminster Park Baptist, Immaculate Conception, St. Cuthbert’s Anglican, Christ Church Deer Park Anglican

1979-1989Organist & Choir Director, All Saints R.C. Church, Etobicoke

-         purchased an organ
-         founded the parish choir
-         established a choir library

-         hired professional musicians for special liturgies

-         coached and worked with volunteer parish musicians for liturgies

-         created a standard Sunday repertoire including a sung Mass setting

i.e. Gabrieli, Mozart, Haydn, Matthias, Schubert, Rutter

-         produced concerts

-         worked with neighbouring churches for special events

1975-78 Organist & Choir Director, St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Ottawa

-         re-established the parish choir

-         organized special events

-         hired musicians for special liturgies

-         wrote choral and instrumental arrangements as required
